Cash App Afterpay Integration

Since Block, Inc. owns both Cash App and Afterpay, the two platforms have been steadily merging. In 2025, Cash App integrated Afterpay's pay-over-time solutions to hundreds of thousands of partner merchants under a unified "Cash App Afterpay" brand. In 2026, the company launched a Visa Debit Flex Card through the Cash App Card program, allowing eligible cardholders to turn any Visa-accepted purchase into a pay-over-time transaction directly from the Cash App.

This integration means Cash App's 26 million monthly active card users can access Afterpay's installment features without switching apps, and merchants benefit from increased conversion rates and higher average order values across both platforms.

Afterpay Plus Membership

Afterpay Plus is an optional paid subscription (pricing varies by region, approximately $5.99–$9.99 per month in the US) that provides a virtual Mastercard, letting you use Pay in 4 at nearly any retailer — not just Afterpay's partnered merchants. The membership is currently available on an invitation basis to existing customers with a strong payment history. Standard Afterpay Pay in 4 remains completely free for all users.

Fees, Interest Rates, and Spending Limits

Understanding Your Spending Limit

Afterpay does not publish a fixed spending limit. Instead, it uses a dynamic approval system that evaluates each purchase individually. New customers typically start with a lower available balance, which can increase over time by making on-time payments consistently. Factors that determine your limit include your payment history with Afterpay, how long your account has been active, whether you have had any declined transactions, and your overall creditworthiness based on an initial soft credit check. You can check your current "Available to Spend" balance at any time in the "My Afterpay" section of the app.

Late Fee Details for Pay in 4

When you miss a Pay in 4 installment, Afterpay provides a grace period of approximately 10 days before any fee is charged. During that window, you will receive reminders via email and push notification. If the payment is still unpaid after the grace period, a $10 late fee applies for orders of $40 or more. An additional $7 fee is charged if the payment remains unpaid after another 7 days. For orders under $40, the late fee is capped at 25% of the order value. In all cases, total late fees on a single order can never exceed 25% of the original purchase price. Your account will be frozen from making new purchases until the overdue payment is resolved.

Important: Pay Monthly is not available in Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, or West Virginia. APR, terms, and approval for Pay Monthly depend on the merchant, the purchase amount, and your individual creditworthiness. Loans to California residents are made or arranged pursuant to a California Finance Lenders Law license. Always review the Truth In Lending Disclosure in your Loan Agreement before accepting any Pay Monthly offer.

Best buy now pay later app with zero interest
I switched from using my credit card to the Afterpay app for everyday purchases and it has saved me hundreds in interest charges. The pay in 4 option is genuinely interest-free — no hidden fees, no gotchas. I split a $1,200 laptop purchase into four easy payments and paid nothing extra. The app sends reminders before each payment so I never miss a due date. Honestly the best BNPL service I have tried.

Pay Monthly helped me afford furniture without a credit card
I needed a new couch and dining set — about $3,500 total. The Afterpay app Pay Monthly option let me spread it over 12 months with a reasonable APR. No origination fee, no late fees, and I could see the total cost upfront before I committed. The approval was instant through the app. Much better than opening a store credit card with a 29% rate.

Afterpay in-store checkout is a game changer
I use the Afterpay Card at Sephora and Nordstrom Rack all the time. You just tap to pay with Apple Pay and it splits everything into four installments automatically. No need to apply for a store card, no hard credit check, and no interest if you pay on time. My spending limit increased after a few months of on-time payments. Super easy to manage everything from the app.

Good alternative to credit cards, but watch the late fees
Afterpay is a solid buy now pay later option if you are disciplined. I use it for online shopping — fashion, electronics, home goods — and the installment payments make budgeting way easier. The one downside is if you miss a payment: the late fee kicks in after 10 days and can add up. I set calendar reminders now and have not had a problem since. Still much cheaper than credit card interest.

No credit check and instant approval — perfect for college students
As a college student with no credit history, I could not get approved for a credit card. The Afterpay app only does a soft credit check for Pay in 4, so my score was not affected at all. I started with a small spending limit and it gradually increased as I made payments on time. I use it for textbooks, clothes, and electronics. The app is really easy to use and I can see all my upcoming payments clearly.

Cash App integration makes Afterpay even more convenient
Since Afterpay integrated with Cash App, managing my payments is so much smoother. I use the Cash App Card with the pay-over-time feature at stores that do not even partner with Afterpay directly. Everything is in one place — my installment schedule, payment history, and available balance. For anyone already using Cash App, adding Afterpay is a no-brainer. I have been using it for about a year now with zero issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions US shoppers ask about the Afterpay App, its payment plans, fees, and account management.

Pay in 4 splits your purchase into four equal, interest-free installments. You pay the first 25% at checkout. The remaining three payments are automatically deducted from your linked debit or credit card every two weeks over a six-week period. There is no interest charged as long as you pay on time.
Afterpay does not have a universal fixed limit. For Pay in 4, your spending limit is dynamically determined based on your payment history, account age, and creditworthiness. New users generally start with a lower limit that increases with responsible use. For Pay Monthly, merchants typically set ranges from $200 to $5,000, with some allowing up to $20,000 for high-value purchases.
Pay in 4 uses a soft credit check that does not appear on your credit report and does not impact your score. Pay Monthly requires a hard credit check, which may cause a small, temporary dip in your score. In general, Afterpay Pay in 4 transactions are not reported to credit bureaus, so they will not help build your credit history either.
If you miss a Pay in 4 installment, your account is immediately frozen — you cannot make new purchases until you pay what is owed. Afterpay provides a grace period (usually 10 days) before charging a late fee. After that, a $10 fee applies for orders over $40, with an additional $7 if still unpaid after another week. Total late fees never exceed 25% of the order. Pay Monthly has no late fees, but interest continues to accrue on the unpaid balance.
Yes. The Afterpay Card is a virtual Visa card in the app that works with Apple Pay and Google Pay. You can tap to pay at any store that accepts Visa contactless payments. Popular in-store partners include Sephora, Nordstrom Rack, Urban Outfitters, DSW, and PetSmart, among many others.
In some cases, yes. Afterpay allows eligible users to reschedule a payment within a 7-day window before the due date. You can find this option in the payment schedule section of the app. However, not all payments qualify (such as the first installment), and you cannot reschedule once the due date has passed. Eligibility for rescheduling depends on your payment history and region.
No. The US version of Afterpay requires a US billing address, a US-issued payment card, and a US mobile phone number. International visitors cannot create a US Afterpay account. However, Afterpay operates in several other countries including Australia, the UK, Canada, and New Zealand, each with its own separate app and terms.
